QAA seeks members for Quality Code Advice and Guidance groups

Date: May 21 - 2024

With publication of the 2024 edition of the UK Quality Code happening at the end of June, QAA is now seeking expressions of interest to participate in the groups that will create the Quality Code's accompanying Advice and Guidance.

Each section of the Advice and Guidance will align with one of the Quality Code's 12 Sector-Agreed Principles and will be designed to unpack and expand upon each of those Principles and its Key Practices.

We are recruiting for the first phase of development of the Advice and Guidance, which will span September 2024 to June 2025. Phase 1 will look at:

  • Principle 1: Taking a strategic approach to managing quality and standards
  • Principle 2: Engaging students as partners
  • Principle 8: Operating partnerships with other organisations.

QAA will be selecting writing group members and expert readers to represent the four nations of the UK and the diversity of providers.

Members of the writing group will comprise quality assurance and enhancement professionals, along with those with expertise in the particular topic to which the Advice and Guidance section relates. Each group will also include at least one student member. Writing group members will discuss and draft the Advice and Guidance, and will attend an induction session and four online meetings.

Each expert reader will provide feedback on a near-final draft of each section of Advice and Guidance. Expert readers will attend the induction session and the first and fourth of their writing group's meetings.

Members of the writing groups and expert readers will be drawn from providers that are QAA Members.

‘This is a great opportunity to contribute to this key set of reference points for tertiary education in the UK,’ says Ruth Burchell, Quality Enhancement and Standards Specialist at QAA. ‘We're hugely grateful to everyone who gives their time to ensure that the Quality Code continues to be moulded and truly owned by our sector.’

How to express an interest

Read the Terms of Reference below for more information about the roles. Expressions of interest should be sent to QAA using our online submission form before 28 June. We have also provided a MS Word version of the form to enable you to prepare your answers.

Development of the Advice and guidance - schedule

We expect development of the complete Advice and Guidance to take three years, with the works split into three tranches. This approach was discussed at Quality Code consultation events held in April and May 2024 and received broad approval. Take a look at our Advice and Guidance Schedule document for full details of the three tranches and timelines.
