A new toolkit is launched today at a special webinar on student-staff partnerships hosted by QAA.
This new resource was created as a result of a QAA-funded Collaborative Enhancement Project led by colleagues at the University of Sussex, working with teams from the University of Salford, the University of Brighton and University College London to explore strategies for Developing Effective Staff-Student Partnerships.
Based around key themes for establishing successful partnerships, the resource includes video materials developed in collaboration between students and teaching staff on setting expectations, trust, empowerment and impact.
Dan Axson, Learning Technologies Manager, University of Sussex, reflects on the project: ‘This project was fascinating. The highlight for me was seeing our student researchers get stuck in to interviewing and then move on to producing excellent content for the toolkit, they’ve been so professional and brought a great energy to the project. Another highlight was seeing our themes emerge during our sandpit event last year.’
Professor Susan Smith, Deputy Director for Student Experience and Professor of Accounting, University College London, from the project team said: ‘Our project brought together students and staff across four different institutions. It was great to see the group bond so quickly, truly collaborating to take shared decisions and develop the toolkit. We are grateful to the QAA for the grant and our QAA mentor Ann for supporting this project. We hope the toolkit will offer practical guidance to other colleagues as they establish student-staff partnerships.’
The full toolkit can be downloaded from the project page on our website.
