Shanghai Normal University has successfully completed its International Quality Review (IQR) and been awarded global quality accreditation by QAA.
IQR is a rigorous process which benchmarks global higher education institutions against international quality assurance standards set out in Part 1 of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
The review was performed between 5 and 7 July 2023 by three independent reviewers appointed by QAA. In making their conclusions, the review team confirmed that the University meets all 10 of the internal quality assurance standards in the ESG.
QAA identified the following areas of good practice for the University:
- The strong intern practice and teaching for students.
- The tailored supervision from Instructional Supervision Team and Teaching Supervision Team.
Professor YUAN Wen, President of Shanghai Normal University said: ‘Shanghai Normal University's participation in and attainment of QAA’s international quality accreditation will produce a long-term impact on the promotion of our university education reform, academic development, and on attaining our teaching excellence goals. The accreditation along with its international perspectives will certainly help sharpen the quality awareness throughout the University and lay the foundation for a new phase of international exchange and cooperation. The University will fully utilise the outcomes of this accreditation to review and improve the principles and methods of talent cultivation, so as to nurture more outstanding talents with an international awareness and innovative abilities.’
Chris Bland, QAA’s Head of Accreditation and Consultancy, said: ‘QAA would like to warmly congratulate Shanghai Normal University on successfully completing its International Quality Review and achieving global quality accreditation. We look forward to collaborating with them in future and that we can work together on other activities.’
Shanghai Normal University’s IQR accreditation will be valid for five years and subject to a satisfactory mid-cycle review. The University can now display QAA’s Accreditation Badge, showing that their quality assurance processes are comparable with international best practice. The institution is now eligible to become a QAA International Member.
By securing global accreditation from QAA, international institutions can clearly spotlight their quality standards internationally, and more easily start a dialogue with institutions outside their own country.
