Revisions to qualification Characteristics Statements

QAA has published updated Characteristics Statements for the following qualification types:
- Foundation degree
- Qualifications involving more than one degree-awarding body
- Master’s degree
- Doctoral degree
These revisions ensure that the statements fully align with the current version of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education. There are no substantive changes to any of the statements, which have been reviewed and approved by members of the working groups that last updated them in 2015.
Characteristics Statements outline the common features of a qualification type, and are designed to go into more detail then the relevant qualification descriptors for the qualification frameworks for higher education. They set out the distinctive features of a qualification type, and help support higher education institutions in the design, maintenance and delivery of their awards.
Characteristics Statements are no longer part of the UK Quality Code, but offer a practical and useful reference point for higher education providers.
