The rapid rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) software like ChatGPT over the last year has presented a range of challenges and opportunities for the tertiary education sector. QAA’s latest advice supports providers as they consider their approaches to assessing students.
The advice highlights the types of assessment that could be deployed when developing programme-level assessment strategies and outlines the potential strengths and weaknesses of different assessment formats. A set of reflective questions is also provided to support providers and programme teams in designing assessment strategies that take account of developments in generative AI.
The guidance builds on a range of previous resources produced by QAA including our advice on Maintaining quality and standards in the Chat GPT era.
Dr Ailsa Crum, QAA’s Director of Membership, Quality Enhancement and Standards said: 'Through our conversations with QAA Members, we know that assessment design is a key priority, particularly as providers respond to advancements in artificial intelligence software. This advice offers practical support to staff as they seek to develop progressive and sustainable assessment strategies'
The advice is available on QAA’s website alongside our other ChatGPT and Artifical Intelligence resources.
