QAA has produced the latest in its series of briefings on policy developments and initiatives concerning micro-credentials across the UK and worldwide. The new briefing focuses on the proposals for a European approach to micro-credentials which are being developed by the European Commission. It links to QAA’s wider work on micro-credentials which includes the development of a Characteristics Statement for Micro-credentials which will be published later this year.
The briefing provides an in-depth overview of the European proposals including definitions, mandatory elements for the description of a micro-credential, stackability and integration with qualifications frameworks. It also considers what the European proposals will mean for UK higher education.
The QAA briefing on micro-credentials is available to QAA Members via the Membership Resources site. To gain access to the site, members can complete this simple registration form. QAA members can also use this site to access our previous briefing on micro-credentials. This briefing has been developed in QAA’s capacity as a membership organisation.
QAA also published a Quality Compass resource on micro-credentials earlier this year. This publication is available via our public website.
