QAA's Dr Ailsa Crum spoke at the first Ibero-American Congress for Quality Assurance in Higher Education last week.
The conference was hosted in Chile by Andrés Bello University and attended by delegates from across Latin America.
The event explored trends and approaches in online education, institutional and international regulations designed to assure quality in online delivery, and the key elements of excellence in online higher education developed by providers across the world.
Ailsa's presentation explored effective practices to underpin transitions to online learning while ensuring good practice in academic integrity and promoting positive student engagement with their learning. She also considered the opportunities offered by these technologies for interactions and collaborations between students, staff and employers, and went on to highlight the ways in which online platforms can enhance student autonomy in the management of their own time – as well as the ongoing impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence on learning, teaching and assessment practices and on academic integrity.
Ailsa said: 'These technologies are transforming the practices of higher education on a global scale. They allow educators and students to transcend traditional physical barriers to learning and teaching. It's vital that we remain alert to – and continue to evaluate – both the opportunities and the challenges they present.'
