QAA publishes NMC review guidance

Date: September 12 - 2024

QAA has published guidance on Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Quality Assurance Reviews, following a recent series of stakeholder engagement sessions to gain feedback on the planned approach.

This document sets out details of the review method utilised by QAA for institutions seeking NMC programme approval, and also outlines the process for the modification of programmes.

Since the start of September, QAA has started to deliver quality assurance processes under contract to the NMC, including programme approval, modification and monitoring activities across the UK. The outcomes of QAA’s processes will be recommendations to the NMC, who make approval decisions as the regulator for these programmes.

This month has also seen the launch of a dedicated website which details how QAA undertakes its work on behalf of the NMC.

‘We are very pleased to have begun our work with the NMC,’ said Rob Stroud, QAA's Director of Assessment Services and Access to Higher Education. ‘We are sincerely proud to be performing this role in supporting this vital and respected field.’
