A QAA-funded Collaborative Enhancement Project led by a team from Imperial College London has published a collection of new resources on Accounting for Student Success: Measuring Educational Gain.
The project has been conducted in partnership with Bath Spa University, Liverpool John Moores University, LSE, Open University, University of Birmingham, University of Cambridge, University of East Anglia, University of Exeter, University of Manchester, University of Plymouth, University of Portsmouth and University of Warwick, most of whom have also contributed case studies to the resource.
These case studies accompany an extensive report which analyses the approaches taken by 66 providers awarded gold overall or gold for student outcomes in TEF 2023.
The report notes that these submissions have provided rich insights into the ways in which universities and colleges have thought about educational gain and the wide variation in how they have sought to enable students to make such gains.
It recommends a more structured approach to defining and measuring educational gain and encourages providers to reflect on strategic and operational considerations such as monitoring the delivery of educational gain, developing action plans, and ensuring that goals are realistic and time-bound.
The resource also includes a detailed summary of relevant literature and an infographic about educational gain created for and by students.

We have supported 66 projects directly involving over 146 providers and partners since launching the scheme in 2020. These projects are funded from QAA Membership and provide a wealth of insights and practical materials.
