QAA launches student survey on value for money

Date: April 8 - 2025
Ensuring value for money in higher education has in recent years become an increasingly urgent concern for students, their families and the general public, and a strategic priority for tertiary regulators across the UK, as well as a key policy consideration for the Department of Education and the governments of the devolved nations of the UK.

Our Student Strategic Advisory Committee has launched a survey to gather the views of current higher education students and recent graduates about what value for money means to them.

We are looking for responses to our short questionnaire from learners across all different types of study, including foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, and degree apprenticeships.

These responses contribute to an evidence-base which will inform a policy briefing which will be presented to higher education sector decision-makers.

"The cost-of-living crisis, the sector's funding issues, and the prospect of tuition fee increases has meant that the costs associated with attaining a degree has become a key concern for students," said SSAC member Emily Bastable. "Whilst we welcome the interest of policymakers and the press on the issue of value for money, it's vital of course that we gain a clear picture of the perspectives of students themselves – the people who pay for and experience these services – and so we urge students across the UK to join our survey and have your voice heard in this crucial debate."

QAA's Student Strategic Advisory Committee comprises students, student representatives and staff from students’ unions or representative bodies in higher education, whose expertise, experience and perspectives provide QAA with essential guidance and advice.
