On 13 April, over 100 Vice Chancellors from African universities and leaders of The Africa Higher Education Centres of Excellence (ACE) attended a webinar for the launch of QAA’s new International Quality Review (IQR) service.
The ACE Impact Project is the first World Bank project aimed at capacity building of higher education institutions in West Africa. The project was initiated to strengthen the quality and quantity of education and research in member institutions, in areas essential for Africa’s economic growth. To support this work, QAA has worked in collaboration with the Association of African Universities and other African partners to specially develop IQR for ACE Impact.
The service will provide ACE Institutions with an independent peer review, leading to institutional accreditation by QAA. This will allow them the opportunity to demonstrate that their institution conforms to international standards. IQR for ACE Impact has been endorsed by the World Bank Group and the Association of African Universities and will be conducted in both French and English.
Professor Etienne Ehile, Secretary General of the Association of African Universities, welcomed delegates to the event and emphasised the value of undergoing institutional capacity building and international accreditation processes. The discussion was moderated by the World Bank.
The project forms part of QAA’s work with international partner institutions, governments and agencies to meet international best practice, develop partnerships with UK institutions and support the UK’s global higher education brand.
