On 15 April, QAA will be holding a Flexible Student Pathways event to mark the launch of new research undertaken by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Institute for Educational Planning.
The report ‘Flexible Learning Pathways in British Higher Education’ draws on the perspectives of national higher education bodies and institutional providers to identify current policies and practices concerning flexible learning pathways in higher education.
It is published at a time when governments across the UK have committed to supporting more flexible student pathways and the event, open to all QAA Members, provides an opportunity to consider the outcomes of the report alongside the policy context of the UK nations.
The report’s author, Emeritus Professor John Brennan, will be presenting along with three of the providers identified in the report and UNESCO. While the research is focused primarily on the English sector, the event includes senior contributors from across the UK to share recent policy directions aimed at promoting greater flexibility for students and their likely future study patterns. A final policy panel will have contributors from the Department for Education, Scottish Funding Council and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
