QAA has signed an agreement with the Viet Nam Education Quality Management Agency (VQA) in Hanoi

On Wednesday 18 October, QAA’s CEO Vicki Stott FRSA signed a partnership agreement with Prof Huynh Van Chuong, General Director of the Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency (VQA). VQA is the Viet Nam government agency responsible for reviews, at institutional or programme level of post-secondary education institutions and post-secondary quality assurance agencies.
 
The signing took place during the UK-Vietnam Higher Education Collaboration Forum in Hanoi, co-organised by the Ministry of Education & Training, Vietnam (MOET), the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the British Council, and coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UK and Viet Nam.
 
Prof Huynh Van Chuong, General Director of VQA, said: ‘This agreement represents a milestone in building our relationship with the UK. Viet Nam has a young and entrepreneurial population that demands high-quality higher education. We are confident that through this partnership we can contribute to the development of more high-quality transnational education partnerships with the UK.’
 
Vicki Stott said: ‘I am delighted that QAA have signed this strategic partnership with VQA. The agreement sets a framework through which VQA and QAA can share best practice with each other for the benefit of institutions and students in both countries.’
 
Viet Nam is one of the priority countries in the UK’s International Education Strategy and QAA is supporting both UK universities and Vietnamese authorities through various activities, including:

• working with the British Council on a project to Enhance Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Viet Nam Higher Education for International Integration
• conducting a comprehensive programme of evaluation and enhancement of UK Transnational Education (TNE) in 2023-24
• expanding its membership offer to higher education providers in Viet Nam.

Earlier this year QAA accredited the British University Vietnam according to European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) through its International Quality Review.
 
The agreement follows QAA becoming the first UK organisation licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to accredit institutions and programmes in Vietnam in 2022.
