A review of Coleg Cambria by QAA has expressed confidence that ‘that academic standards are reliable, meet UK requirements, and are reasonably comparable with standards set and achieved in other providers in the UK’.
Coleg Cambria is a large further education college located in north-east Wales which operates across five campuses in Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire. The College was established in 2013 as a result of a merger of Deeside College and Yale College. The College delivers further education, adult learning, apprenticeships, work-based learning, school link programmes and higher education.
The review visit took place from 24 to 25 May 2023 and was conducted by a team of three reviewers.
The review team also expressed confidence that ‘the quality of the student academic experience meets relevant baseline regulatory requirements’.
The review provides the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) with an expert judgement about the readiness of the provider to enter, or continue to operate within, the higher education sector.
One area for development was identified by the review team:
- Continue development of its internal quality assurance processes so that regular reviews of its practices for standards and quality can drive further improvements and enhancements.
No specific areas for improvement were identified by the review team.
Coleg Cambria's Dean of Higher Education, Emma Hurst, said: ‘We are pleased QAA has recognised and expressed confidence in the standards of the HE provision and academic experience at Cambria's University Centre and thank the reviewers for their guidance, support and feedback throughout the process.
‘It is heartening that QAA found no areas in need of specific improvement, but the college will continue to work hard to raise standards for our learners and look forward to building on the relationships we have with our partners and stakeholders in the sector.’
