As part of our Membership activity, we’ve been leading a Supporting Successful Student Transitions project to help staff and students address priority areas for students starting their higher education experience in 2021-22, including knowledge gaps, managing expectations, mindset, and student confidence. Offering positive approaches and practical solutions to support a range of student transitions, we are now expanding this collection of toolkits, short papers and case studies with the addition of two new resources, published today on our Membership Resources Site.
Building belonging in the post-pandemic landscape by Dr Karen Campbell (Glasgow Caledonian University) explores ways of embedding a sense of belonging among students as they make transitions into and through higher education. Drawing on research and highlighting specific aspects of Glasgow Caledonian University’s approach, the paper discusses key challenges and opportunities for building belonging in the post-pandemic student experience and offers practical examples and activities that could be introduced in other institutions.
The Student’s Guide to the Hidden Curriculum is a practical, student-facing resource aimed at new students starting university. Anticipating the sort of questions students might have as they start to navigate university life, the guide has been created to help explain some of the terminology and expressions they are likely to encounter and help them settle in at their chosen institution. This resource was commissioned by QAA Membership and produced by colleagues at the University of Leeds.
Both resources are available now on the Supporting Successful Student Transitions project page on our Membership Resources Site.
These resources were funded by QAA Membership and are distinct from our work as the Designated Quality Body.
