Kuwait International Law School courses awarded International Programme Accreditation

Date: November 11 - 2024
The Quality Assurance Agency has published the reports of International Programme Accreditation review which evaluated provision in Law and English delivered by Kuwait International Law School.

Kuwait International Law School is the only private law school in Kuwait, offering legal education leading to paralegal studies, LLB and LLM degrees under licence from the Kuwait Private Universities Council. In January, the School successfully completed the renewal of its International Quality Review and was awarded global quality accreditation by QAA.

The provision covered by these programme reviews comprised Kuwait International Law School's Pre-LLB English Language Programme, English Foundation Programme (Pre-Master's), Bachelor of Law Programme, Diploma of Law Programme (Para Legal Diploma) and Master of Laws programmes.

The review took place on 1-3 July 2024 and was conducted by a team of four independent reviewers.

International Programme Accreditation is a process which benchmarks provision against international quality assurance standards set out in Part 1 of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).

The team concluded that these five programmes offered by Kuwait International Law School meet all 10 of the internal quality assurance standards in the ESG and therefore may be granted QAA's International Programme Accreditation.

The review team made two recommendations. These recommendations are of a desirable rather than essential nature and are proposed to enable the institution to build on existing practice which is operating satisfactorily but which could be improved or enhanced.

The team also identified the following four areas of good practice:

  • Effective institutional relationships through the establishment of an Academic Advisory Board and network of Associate Universities which has led to an enhancement of academic activities and the protection of assessment standards;
  • A strong governance framework, featuring advisory committees and benefiting from the expertise of both national and international specialists in legal education;
  • The implementation of experiential learning including critical thinking and analytical skills, which, along with a diverse assessment diet, has benefited student learning outcomes;
  • The extensive support provided to all staff for their professional development and training, which enhances the learning environment for students and supports staff retention.

Piers Wall, QAA’s Head of International Quality Assurance and Enhancement, said: 'QAA is pleased to congratulate Kuwait International Law School on its successful completion of our International Programme Accreditation for these five courses. We continue to enjoy working with our colleagues in Kuwait, and we look forward to collaborating with them in the future.'
