The latest QAA Collaborative Enhancement Project to complete has created a flexible learning toolkit aimed at addressing commonly found challenges in programme and module design, such as content overload and variable student engagement. The project was led by the University of Derby, in collaboration with Derby College, London College and Pearson Learning.
The final resources produced through the project include a Module Activity Plan with Indicative Timelines (MAPIT), a range of blueprints and case studies produced through student-facilitated workshops, and a research evidence page collating the latest sector and research evidence about flexible learning.
The toolkit also includes previously published resources such as a digital exhibition of flexible learning journeys, and a five-hour Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). The MOOC contains self-paced learning content and design-enhancing activities alongside recommendations and an evidence-based guide to further reading.
Dr Ailsa Crum, QAA’s Director of Membership, Quality Enhancement and Standards said: ‘This project has produced a rich set of practical resources that can support QAA Members and the wider higher education sector to understand how flexible learning could support all of their students, whether campus-based, online and/or enrolled on an apprenticeship. These resources have been produced by the sector for the sector, reflecting the value of our Collaborative Enhancement Projects for producing evidence-informed materials to help with everyday challenges.’
The project team have also produced a short video featuring the student partners who formed a vital part of the project. They articulate their experience of being involved through the project journey and tell us about their own learning and development in an open, honest and inspiring way.
All of the resources are available on the project webpage. For more information about our Collaborative Enhancement Projects, please visit our website.
