A world-leading sector with much to celebrate - but innovative approaches are needed to tackle the challenges faced by UK higher education now and in the future.
That was the message of a speech by QAA Chief Executive Douglas Blackstock, addressing the UK Quality Summit in Cardiff today (Wednesday 25 April 2018).
Speaking at the Summit, Douglas highlighted the good practice we've found in universities and colleges across the UK, contributing to the reputation the sector enjoys internationally for quality and excellence. However, he also cautioned that threats to academic integrity risk harming this reputation, and approaches to quality assurance will need to adapt to meet this new challenge.
There were also updates on how regulatory frameworks and approaches to quality assurance are developing across the UK, held together by the 'glue' of the revised UK Quality Code.
The UK Quality Summit is taking place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Other speakers at the conference include NUS President Shakira Martin, Professor Abdulrasheed Abubakar, Executive Secretary of Nigeria's National Universities Commission, and Eluned Morgan AM, Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning.
