Comprehensive evidence of improvements in student experience, finds report

Analysis of QAA reviews over 2013-16 shows comprehensive evidence of improvement in the student experience.
A new report by Dr Maureen Martin, of the University of Reading, also found that providers had taken 'a coherent approach to enhancement and developing globally minded, work-ready graduates'.
Dr Martin analysed 308 Higher Education Review reports comprising QAA's reviews of universities, further education colleges and alternative providers between 2013 and 2016.
Her report summarises review findings across the following themes:
- graduates for the 21st century
- collaborative provision and partnerships
- innovative practice
- internationalisation
- use of data
- good practice.
The report shows the impact of enhancement initiatives, for example in revised programme design, approval and implementation.
The emphasis on developing curriculum has been driven by institutional cultures, says Dr Martin, underpinned by strategies and policies, and achieved by working closely with employers, students and other stakeholders.
Reviewers saw the benefits of embedding employability in a more flexible curriculum, and increased opportunities for learning and assessment in the workplace.
