Collaborating in Viet Nam

Date: June 3 - 2024

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) has recently completed the latest in a series of workshops in Viet Nam, part of a capacity-building project funded by the British Council.

From April to October 2023, QAA worked with the British Council Viet Nam and the Viet Nam Education Quality Management Agency (VQA) on various activities aimed at fostering the development of good quality assurance practice in the country. These included:

  • a comparative review of higher education quality assurance between the United Kingdom and Viet Nam
  • benchmarking and analysing internal quality assurance practices at five selected higher education institutions in Viet Nam
  • producing a report on the practices of educational accreditation centers (CEAs) in Viet Nam
  • providing a recommendation report to guide large-scale improvements in quality assurance in Viet Nam
  • conducting four public seminars to share the project’s findings
  • delivering an online training workshop for Vietnamese higher education leaders to support effective quality management.

The second phase of the project, which began in January 2024, focuses on:

  • developing national-level quality guidelines for the higher education sector, to be implemented by VQA
  • conducting external quality evaluations of selected Vietnamese higher education institutions.

Both of these initiatives include several training and dissemination sessions, with local stakeholders actively involved at every stage. This involvement aims to further build capacity in quality assurance expertise. The project is scheduled to continue until March 2025.

This recent development is part of QAA’s ongoing collaboration with Viet Nam, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VQA in October 2023.

Additionally, Viet Nam is a focus country for the Quality Evaluation and Enhancement of UK Transnational Education (QE-TNE) Scheme this year. A country report, institutional visit reports, and case studies will be published for QE-TNE Scheme Members over the coming months.
