Updated Subject Benchmark Statements for Arts and Humanities programmes

We have published updates to Subject Benchmark Statements in Arts and Humanities subjects, such as English, History and Economics.
Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and the academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas. They show what graduates might reasonably be expected to know, do and understand at the end of their studies.
As with other recent updates, the refreshed versions published today do not represent a major change to the content of each Statement but are minor revisions to make sure they are up to date with current reference points, including the 2018 UK Quality Code for Higher Education. The amendments to these Subject Benchmark Statements marks the end of a series of such updates, in which we published revisions to Statements in STEM subjects and Professional Services subjects.

The Statement for Welsh was published on 5 December to coincide with Welsh Language Rights Day.

Funding for the work to amend these Subject Benchmark Statements predates QAA Membership. We are therefore publishing these Statements on our website for all to access. For future revisions of Subject Benchmark Statements, QAA will be reviewing its approach and process for updating and publishing Subject Benchmark Statements in early 2020 to reflect the fact that this important work is funded directly by QAA Member institutions.
