Review team expresses confidence in the University of Glasgow’s quality arrangements

Date: June 28 - 2023

A review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has expressed confidence in the University of Glasgow’s progress in continuing to monitor, review and enhance its higher education provision to enable effective arrangements to be in place for managing academic standards and the quality of the student experience.

The review was carried out by a team of three independent reviewers who were appointed by QAA. It took place on 20 April 2023.

The team identified the following good practice for the University of Glasgow:

  • The clarity of the Learning and Teaching Strategy, which was supported by close integration and collaboration across workstreams to enable its effective delivery.

The University of Glasgow’s Vice Principal for Learning and Teaching, Professor Moira Fischbacher-Smith said: ‘I very much welcome the outcome from this review and I am grateful to all colleagues and students who contributed to the preparations over several months, and to the discussions with external panel members on the day. Institutional reviews of this nature are important in terms of the confirmation of standards and validation of our approach to enhancement.

It is very encouraging to receive endorsement of our approach to implementing the learning and teaching strategy. Equally, we accept the recommendations as helpful feedback to shape our ongoing approach to enhancing learning, teaching and the student experience.

QAA has also made the following recommendations:

  • To ensure that the Student Support Officer role is understood and clearly signposted as being available to support all students, including postgraduate students.
  • To review its current approach to online and blended delivery to ensure greater equivalence across all provision.
