A review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has expressed confidence in the University of Dundee’s progress in continuing to monitor, review and enhance its higher education provision to enable effective arrangements to be in place for managing academic standards and the quality of the student experience.
The review was carried out by a team of three independent reviewers who were appointed by QAA. It took place in April 2023.
The team identified the following good practice for the University of Dundee:
- There is clear alignment between strategic planning and schools’ and professional services’ priorities, supporting the effective implementation of institutional strategies.
- The University has developed a clear, accessible and integrated approach to effectively monitor and utilise data relating to access, student retention, progression and degree outcomes to inform enhancement of the student experience.
- The network of Digital Champions play a key cross institutional role in advising on the embedding and enhancement of online, blended and technology enhanced learning and teaching practice. It also acts as an effective conduit for the sharing of good practice.
Professor Blair Grubb, Vice-Principal (Education) at the University of Dundee, said: 'I am delighted reviewers recognise our on-going commitment to our students through the provision of high-quality learning experiences. We enjoyed the opportunity to talk with colleagues about areas of developing practice at the University and are pleased they recognised the work of our digital champions and our use of data to help us better understand and enhance our students’ experience.'
QAA has also made the following recommendation:
- The University should develop a systematic approach to professional services review that complements the existing mechanisms for engaging professional services in quality processes. It should also ensure that there is appropriate engagement with staff and students, and appropriate externality, to promote high quality learning and continuous improvement.
