Further education college staff

Support for staff teaching higher education courses in further education colleges

If you are providing higher education at a further education college you will be doing so as part of a collaborative arrangement with a degree awarding body (see Quality Code Chapter B10). The learning experience that you are providing will need to meet the requirements of the degree awarding body, as well as the general expectations of the Quality Code, the relevant subject benchmark statements, and any other relevant guidance.

When the time comes for a QAA review you will want to be familiar with the methods used by QAA to review higher education provided in further education colleges. For purposes of enhancement you may find it useful to consult QAA's publications analysing the outcomes of reviews of higher education provided in this way. These publications present an overview of the good practice identified by QAA.

Liaison group and advisory forum

A liaison group and advisory forum exist to support those involved in providing higher education at further education colleges, and to facilitate debate and policy development. These are the Higher Education in Further Education Colleges Liaison Group (HE in FECs Liaison Group) and the HE in FE Policy Advisory Forum. The latter consists of the liaison group together with representatives from other organisations with an interest in further and higher education.
